Low Light
It's no secret that I love photography. A couple days ago I read a very inspiring tutorial all about low light photography. So I tried it, and I am in love with it! You may want to stop reading now, because now I'm going to talk in photographer.
My ISO on these is anywhere from 5000 to 12,800. Yeah, ridiculous! If I'm going to continue shooting low light, I'll really have to invest in a noise reducing software. I love LOVE my 7D, but this is the only thing that makes me want a full frame camera. The low light capabilities on those are ca-razy! Sigh. Maybe in a year. The Mark III is about to be announced any day now, so I bet prices for the MarkII will fall quite a bit. I also shot these wide open on my 50mm 1.4. Anyway, these aren't amazing, but I had a lot of fun experimenting.
Thanks to Kate for being my model!
She loves to take pictures for me. *snicker*

Playing Hostess
Today I threw a baby shower for my friend Kendra. Kendra and I went to beauty school together 5 years ago and we've been friends ever since! She threw my shower for me when I had Max, so of course I returned the favor and threw one for her and her little guy! I chose a Milk and Cookies theme, and thanks to pinterest, everything came together so cute!
I bought and borrowed glass jars for all the cookies. I attempted to stack the oreos to look like a cake. I made "pedestals" for two of the hurricane jars by covering cannery cans in cardstock and painting polka dots on them. I also made labels for all the cookies, and even had paper bags for everyone to take extra cookies home in. The table runner is actually black and white polka dotted wrapping paper.
These straws were my favorite part! You can only find them online, and even though there kind of expensive for straws (once you add on shipping) they were totally worth it! They are old fashioned paper straws and I love them to pieces. I'm really sad there is no way to reuse them, because they are so adorable! We served milk (chocolate, strawberry, and regular) in mason jars.
The cookies I served were: chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia nut, oreo, chocolate peanut butter no-bakes, and my friend Shanna brought some milano cookies. Yum!
We had a really good turnout of people and we played a couple fun games. We played "Price is Right" where everyone had to guess the price of some baby items I had purchased at Walmart, and I created my own game to test people's knowledge of children's television shows. I had grabbed pictures off of the internet and they got one point for knowing the title of the show, and additional points for knowing the characters. And just for fun, I threw in some tv shows from our past as well. Like, who remembers this?
Can you name all the characters?
Anyway, it was a fun day, and I'm so happy with how everything turned out. I hope these pictures do it justice, because it was so cute! I'm pretty proud of it! Congratulations Kendra, and I can't wait to meet little Dexter!

Elephant Toothpaste
The goal was this:
http://playathomemom3.blogspot.com/2012/02/elephant-toothpaste.html
But that's definitely not what we got! I think that I didn't have a narrow enough bottle to make it come out like that, and I also think my peroxide was a bit old. We followed all the instructions, and at first it didn't work at all! So I gave the bottle a shake, and then the magic started to happen.
Whether or not it worked like it was supposed to, Kate loved it! It wasn't long before she was completely covered in the soapy foam! I let her play in it as long as she wanted to, and she sure had fun. Until the very end when she screamed, "Can I please take a bath now?!?" So we did, and I guess I shouldn't have let her play with it as long as she did because she is now stained pink! hahaha. Either that or don't put as much food dye in as I did.

7 months
Max turned 7 months on Sunday! He gets bigger and cuter everyday!
He is not crawling yet, but he is getting more mobile in his own way. He can scooch around on his belly and roll to where he wants to go. He'd rather be sitting though, so I think it will still be awhile before he learns to crawl. He loves to hold our hands and stand, and he marches in place when you do that. I feel like he just wants to run, but can't figure out how to do it! He's eating solid food at night, and he will now take a bottle!! He'll only take it from me, and it has to be exactly the right temperature, but just the fact that he's taking it is huge! It was such a struggle to get Kate to even take it, so I'm very glad it's going so smoothly for Max.
He's on a much better schedule now as well. He'll nap around 10:00 and 2:00 and will go to sleep at night around 7:30. Can I get a hallelujah? This is awesome. In fact, now that Kate doesn't nap at all during the day, BOTH of our children are usually in bed and asleep before 8:00. It's really amazing, and Dustin and I finally have time to just relax and be with each other every night. He still wakes up at night to eat, but it's usually only once so it's not much to complain about. Compared to how it was, I am a whole new person!
Max definitely has an evil side as well. Don't let these sweet pictures fool you! He most definitely has a witching hour. He is a happy baby during the day, but from about 5:00 until he goes to sleep he is grumpy! He has the highest pitched girly scream you've ever heard, and it's loud. If you're not paying attention to him, he'll be screaming. I did catch it on video, I will have to post it soon.
I love this little boy with all my heart. I love that he loves me so much, and that just a smile from me, can make him smile like this. He's going to be such a heartbreaker!

President's Day Weekend
We've had such a fun few days! And very uncharacteristically of me, there are NO pictures of any of it! So this post is mainly for journaling.
Thursday- Grandma Foree came to visit! We took a very frustrating trip to Party City and she went to see Wicked that night. No I wasn't invited.
Friday- We went to the zoo with Grandma Foree! I renewed my membership, and donated $5 to their new tiger exhibit they are building. It was such a beautiful day! We saw almost all the animals, went in the petting zoo, and touched the sting rays. When the kids were finally wiped out we headed home. Grandma babysat that night, while Dustin and I went to our ward's Valentines Day party. This party was so fun! I just LOVE my ward. We had a potato bar, delicious desserts, played a really fun get-to-know-you-trivia-game, and I did a photo booth! Too see those pictures, check out my photography blog, or my facebook page. I think they turned out really cute even though I know very little about studio lighting.
Saturday- Grandma Foree left that morning, and Grandma and Grandpa Watson came into town. Dustin went golfing with his Dad and Jaron, and I took the kids over to Beth's house to hang out. Grandma Watson and Aunt Lacie went to a matinee of Wicked. No, I wasn't invited. What is up with the universe? haha. When the boys got home we took advantage of the situation and went shopping WITHOUT children. Yes, it was only to Target, but it was amazing. Then we went home, got our families ready and went goofy golfing with everyone. It was kind of crazy golfing with 5 adults, 3 kids, and a baby, but we had lots of fun. Afterwards we ate dinner at Cafe Rio. Yum!
Sunday- Went to church. I tried to get Max to sleep the for the entire time, but he absolutely refused. He ended up falling asleep when I went to get Kate from nursery at the END of church. Little stinker. Also, I just have to say how much Kate loves nursery! She loves it so much that she asks me EVERY DAY if it's time to go to church. She has always loved it, but now she has the best teacher ever and she just can't wait to go. Her teacher loves nursery so much that she has specifically asked the bishop to never release her from her calling. How cool is that? Anyway....after church we at lunch at Jaron and Beths, and said goodbye to Grandma, Grandpa and Lacie. We took a break to go home and nap, and then went back over to Jaron and Beths that night for ice cream and games.
Monday- We did absolutely nothing! I kept meaning to get dressed and accomplish things, but it never happened, and it was fun.

Valentines Day
I normally don't decorate for holidays other than Halloween and Christmas, but this year Kate is getting older and it's so much more fun to get into the smaller holidays. This is the first year I've ever decorated for Valentines day and I love it! I made felt hearts and put them in my hurricane vase, I made XOXO out of wood and put them up on my shelf, I WON this cute banner from my friend Alacey, and Kate and I made some ink blot hearts. We also made sure our toes were painted to celebrate the holiday!
On "Balemtimes" morning I woke up and made breakfast before Dustin left for work! I made pink pancakes and I even had heart shaped ice cubes to put in our milk. Dustin gave us our gifts before he left. He got me 10 Things I Hate About You, and the first season of Modern Family. He got Max a stuffed lion and Kate a balloon. I made her some heart shaped crayons. After Dustin left, we got to work on assembling his present. Dustin got the gift of sugar this year! I made him a candy bar bouquet, Kate got him marshmallows and Reeses cups, and we made him a Twinkie cake! I know you're all wondering so here's the recipe:
1 box twinkies cut in half lengthwise and placed in 9x13 pan with cream side facing up
layer on: bananas, crushed pineapple, and 1 large box vanilla pudding (made according to directions on the box). Top with whipped cream. That's it! And it's sooooo good!
We also made a big banner that said "We love Daddy" and put streamers in the doorway. Kate also made him a card. He was surprised to see the party for him when he got home. We ate dinner, cake, opened gifts and Dustin surprised me with another gift- a 90 minute massage! I'm soooo excited for that!
It was a WONDERFUL Valentines day!
(also I just have to add that Kate posed the above picture all by herself. She grabbed the balloon, sat down next to Max and said, "Take a picture Mom!" hahahaha!)

Peek-a-boo
I think I'm going through session withdrawls, because I've been going crazy taking pictures of my kids lately! Especially the cute one who can't run away from me.
Look at that face! I just can't resist it. This little boy has me wrapped around his finger for sure.
He just loves to play peek-a-boo! It's his favorite game.
Such a beautiful baby boy!
Side note: I was playing with a softer editing style today. Whatcha think?
