First hand made item for baby
So...
I made a quilt.
I was in my sewing room the other day looking at all my scrap fabric and decided that I wanted to make a quilt for baby boy Watson.
I looked on Pinterest and quickly found the tutorials that I needed. http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/p/beginning-quilting-series.html
I did not buy any fancy quilting tools prior to making this. I hand cut all those squares just by laying a square card I had on the fabric and cutting around it. Haha. I'm pretty lazy when I'm sewing or crafting. I didn't measure or mark the fabric, I just did it. If I had, I'm sure I would have run into far less problems on keeping my squares lined up and my lines straight. Oh well, lesson learned. I will take my time next time.
The hardest part for me was "basting" the quilt (pinning all three layers prior to quilting). It was really hard to get all the layers smooth and wrinkle free. Quilting it actually wasn't too bad, my thread kept breaking which was really annoying, but other than that it was fine. I took the easy way of quilting this time, just sewing along my seams. I figured since it was my first quilt that I shouldn't try anything fancy.
I also tried to take another shortcut and bought quilt binding at the craft store. I rounded the corners of my quilt because I thought that bias tape binding was supposed to help go around curves? Well, I will definitely not be doing that next time. I don't like the way it looks, and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't keep it from puckering around the corners. I will suck it up and just make my own binding and miter the corners (it just looked confusing and hard on the tutorial, so I tried to take the easy way out).
Anyway, here is the finished product:
Though there are a lot of flaws to it, I'm still pretty proud of it. It's the first quilt I've made after all, I can't be too hard on myself! It's soft and puffy and I love all the bright colors. My baby will look really cute laying on it :)

Dance Class
Aside from the fact that it was a big day for our family today, it was also a big day for Kate and her cousin Jaylee. It was their very first day of dance class!
We've signed them up with a local dance company. I decided on this company because they are close, reasonably priced and they wear modest costumes! The girls were so excited for their first day and they had so much fun!
They have performances in November and April and I can't wait to see these little girls perform!

It's a....
This morning we had the big ultrasound. Dustin took the day off and we brought the kids. We got to see little hands, toes, fingers, and we found out that it's a BOY! I am super shocked. I really thought it was going to be a girl this time, but I have NEVER been right! My mommy instinct is always wrong. haha. Kate was a little disappointed at first, she really wanted a sister, but she seems to be coming around to the idea. The doctor says everything looks really good and the baby healthy.
After we went out to lunch and to Target to get an outfit for the little guy. Max was born in July and this one will be born in January, so it will be complete opposite seasons for clothing. I saw this and I had to get it. I love little rompers for boys!
We are so excited to meet our little guy in January!
Little Seamstress
Kate has been begging me forever to teach her how to sew. This morning I caved and let her make a blanket for her baby dolls. I put a box underneath the sewing table and put the pedal on it so she could reach it. I found some soft scrap fabric that she could use. I showed her how to guide the fabric through the machine and she did a pretty good job of it.
She had a lot of fun doing this, and is already asking me what else she can make!

Zip-a-dee-do-dah
Kate is in a local singing group. She is having so much fun and her teachers are incredibly talented. Sadly, class was cancelled today so we practiced on her own today. I took this video of her singing Zip-a-dee-do-dah. She really knows it better than this, but of course she had to ham it up for the camera :)

I posted these pictures on my photography blog a while ago but I wanted to post them here too so they will be in my blog book.
Max's Pirate Party!
I'm not sure why it took me so long to blog this, but here is how Max's birthday party went!
We had a pirate theme and it was so much fun! It was originally supposed to be a small party, but it quickly turned into an extravaganza! Darn you pinterest and all your cute ideas! I bought the plates, cups, napkins, table cloth, hats, tatoos, gold dubloons and the pinata at Target and Hobby Lobby. Sherice and I made the cute cupcake wrappers, pirate booty bags (for candy from the pinata and treasure from the treasure hunt) and banner.
The first thing we did when all the cousins were in attendance is get pirate tattoos and take a picture in the pirate photo booth. The only picture I could get of Max was while he was standing next to Emma. I guess dressing up like a pirate is normal for him. He had no interest in it! Aunt Lacie was the tattoo artist, while I took the pictures.
The scallywags.
Then we started playing our games! First was pin the patch on the pirate!
Then we had the kids Walk the Plank! We put a piece of wood over a swimming pool and the kids had to walk across without falling in. I think this was their favorite activity of the day.
Then it was time for the pinata!
After the candy had been safely secured in the kids pirate booty bags, I informed them that Captain Hook had stolen our treasure and had buried it somewhere. It didn't take them long to figure out that that place was Aunt Sherice's sandbox. They had to fight off Captain Hook (Uncle Scott) to get the treasure!
Then it was finally time to open presents. Max got new clothes, trucks and a "skateboard" from Grandma and Grandpa Watson, a really cute quiet book and a Disney Cars build and play book from Grandma and Grandpa Foree, a Monster's University car from Maddock and Jaylee, a mega blocks car from Aunt Sherice?, and a plush Jake and Captain Hook dolls from Kate.
After presents everyone went swimming so cupcakes ended up happening after dinner. A storm had rolled in by then and the power was OUT at Sherice's house. But I'm glad because then I ended up with these adorable pictures of Max blowing out his candles and I didn't even have to be the annoying photographer mom who wanted the lights turned off anyway! haha.
