As convinced as I was a few weeks ago that this baby was coming early, the more convinced I am now that she’s not.
I thought that the purpose of the once-a-week appointment was to check your progress, and kind of estimate when the baby will come. But at my 36 week appointment the doctor said it was unnecessary, and today at my 37 week appointment she didn’t even mention it. I am a little grateful to have avoided being poked and prodded down there, but does this mean I’m not even close at all?
Really? I feel close. I’m so uncomfortable! I’m tired all the time. I don’t sleep well at night. I walk very slowly. Or waddle, I should say. I’m sick of being hot and sweaty all the time. Poor Dustin is always bundled up in blankets, while I sit next to him, fanning myself. I hate having to pee all the time. I despise my swollen face and feet. My back and neck are achy. My hips hurt like crazy! And I know she’s dropped because sometimes when she kicks, she’ll hit her head on my pelvic bone. Ouch! These sharp sudden pains will actually cause me to gasp aloud, which I wish I wouldn’t do, because every time they cause Dustin to react like this:
“Are you okay?” “Are you contracting?” “Are we having the baby yet?”
“No.”
“Dang it!”
He’s so excited to be a daddy. He loves to feel and watch her move. This, I have to say, is my favorite part of being pregnant too. She’s really active, and it’s so amazing to watch your belly move on it’s own. I’m really going to miss that part of being pregnant when it’s all over. Dustin has already warned me that once they give her to him in the hospital, he won’t give her to anybody else. He will, of course, let everyone have their turn, but I just thought that was really sweet. He just wants his little girl to be here!
Looking back on my post two weeks ago, I predicted she would be here on April 5th. That’s Sunday. Probably not going to happen. I won’t change my bet for the sake of the game, but those that chose a later date probably have a better chance at winning. I just hope she doesn’t come late. My due date is the 20th. My brother has to be in Canada for a summer job by the 27th. Which means the latest he can come and visit is like the 23-24th -ish. If I were to be late, and he were to miss it, there’s a good chance he wouldn’t get another chance to come to Arizona until Christmastime. Horrible. So, everybody pray that she comes at least a little early okay?

weird that you weren't checked at your apt...its standard to check at 37 weeks - that's the only way to know if you're progressing!!!
I'd go back in and have a check, but that's just me.
FYI, checks are so much more painful than regular pelvic exams...horray, for being a woman!
I went to my 36 week check up and my doctor told me he wasn't going to check me until 38 weeks. I went home that night and had a baby the next morning.
Frickin frackin doctor.
I had a feeling that something was up. I should have pushed my point further. So if you're feeling that something's up, get checked. Push your point. Take Dustin in with you to push your point. You're the one paying. But yeah, it really hurts to get checked. Just try not to kick the doctor in the face. It won't be easy.
Stay strong Erin. You'll do great.
I thought my Avery was going to come early too but she was a 40 weeker! Wishfull thinking I guess!
And that is kinda weird they didn't check you at 37 weeks, they did for both my babies. You could probably just go in and request to be checked, i'm sure they would! It's kinda nice to know where you are! On the other hand it doesn't always mean much, with my first I was only dialated to a 1/2 the appt before I went into labor and then my second I was dialated to a 3 my appt before I went into labor. You never know I guess, good luck i'm sure you'll do great!
With my first they checked me at 38 weeks, but not earlier than that. I guess it just depends on the doctor. Also, I think the norm for a first time birth is to be closer to the due date or even over. I know, not what you want to hear, but it's hard to live each day hoping that something will happen today.
Sorry about being uncomfortable. I'm 5 weeks behind you and I'm already feeling those "gasping pains". I can tell that there is getting less and less room in there since he's fighting more and more. My insides must be black and blue from all his kicking and spinning!
I'd say, just watch the movement. If she stops moving for any length of time call your doctor. That's what happened with my first, they took me in and monitored me, and then I was induced. Just keep notice of when she moves and when she doesn't. Report anything strange to your doctor. And don't worry about calling your doctor too much, every mom and not just first time moms, are paranoid. Doctors are used to it. And don't be afraid to get pushy with the docs and tell them what you want, it's your body, your baby and more importantly your sanity! Good luck!! ☺
You should go back and ask them to check you. I had to ask my doctor to check me at 36 weeks because for some reason they think first time moms take longer. sure enough i was already 90 percent efaced and had carter 3 days later. There are also natural ways to induce labor. they won't hurt the baby, just prepare your uterus for labor. Its also supposed to make labor easier when it does come. let me know if you want my list! i had the easiest labor and delivery because of it.
Swollen feet and face are horrible! You will be so surprised how fast you lose all that water weight, almost as soon as you have her! Hang in there, she will be here soon enough and you won't even remember all the bad things!
