Easter

Happy Easter everyone!

I hope everyone had a fantastic day! Our Easter started bright and early at 6:30. My kids have got an awful habit of waking up early lately. I pacified them with the iPad in our room as long as I could, but we were downstairs by 7:30. They were so excited to go downstairs and find what the Easter bunny had hid for them.

They each got eggs filled with candy, a box of their favorite fruit snacks and one toy. One egg remained empty to remind them of the empty tomb (that week's FHE lesson). Max got a soccer ball, and Kate got a stuffed Pinkie Pie.

She loves it.

After doing our egg hunt about 5 times, we had a yummy breakfast of cinnamon rolls and then got ready to go to church.

Our church is now at 11:00, so Max is always crashed on the couch as soon as we get home.

Later that evening we went over to Jaron and Beth's house for Easter dinner. Our good friends Tony and Leah were there too. We had an egg hunt for the kids.

And unfortunately that was the end of it for us. Right after the egg hunt, Kate threw up. I didn't even know she was sick! I was hoping that it was just a case of too much easter candy, but we took her home and she was sick all night :( Looks like we've been hit with the flu again.

Even though it had a not-so-fun ending, Easter was really fun this year. We are so thankful for this day and all it represents!

Max, baby genius

I just have to brag about my little boy for a minute. If you've talked to me recently, I've probably already bragged about this to you but I just can't help it. I'm so amazed by this. Max KNOWS all of his letters! He is only 20 months old, and he's known them for awhile. This is just the first time I decided to record him doing it. It's so cute and entertaining to me to hear him saying all his letters. If you listen closely he will even say the sounds to a couple of them!

(please ignore the ironic typo in the title of this video! haha. I didn't realize it until after it was done uploading and I can't figure out how to fix it)

Now before you all go thinking that I'm some sort of an amazing mom, I have to stop you right there. I did not teach him anything.

The iPad did.

I had originally downloaded Starfall ABC's for Kate to learn her letters and letter sounds better, but it ended up being Max's favorite game! It's bright, colorful, and repetitious, and easy to navigate. I think that's why he always played it so much, and in the process he learned all his letters. I highly recommend it. It's a great learning tool!

He loves anything with letters. When we're out and about he's always pointing them out to me. He loves to sit down with a book and tell me all the letters he sees.

This one is going to be smart!

Monday

Let me tell you a little about yesterday.

Kids woke up earlier than I wanted to, so I did the whole here-play-with-the-ipad-and-let-me-sleep trick. Fell asleep for a little bit longer and woke up to them no longer in my room. I did not hear them leave! I usually do.

I went downstairs to find an entire shaker of pepper dumped all over my kitchen. On the table, on my stove top, and all over the floor.

I walk in the front room to find the salt shaker dumped all over the couch and the desk.

I clean it up, feed them breakfast, and have them play in the playroom while I did a little work on the computer.

After about 20 minutes I noticed they were being too quiet. So I go upstairs and find that they had snuck into my room and were eating Tums! And then about an hour later I found them eating the teething tablets. Neither of which are harmful, but they got in big trouble and a big lecture about not eating medicine.

When it came time for lunch I decided we need to get out of the house. So I get the kids dressed to go to McDonald's. I get ready and I come downstairs to find Max DRINKING syrup! Ugh! I don't know what was with my kids yesterday, they just had to get into everything! I wipe Max off and throw the kids in the car, trying to be upbeat and still have a fun time at McDonald's.

We get to McDonald's and right after we get our food, Max pukes everywhere! It is almost pure syrup. How much did this kid drink?? Have you ever cleaned up sticky vomit? Oh my gosh it was so gross! And so embarrassing to be having to clean it up while your kids are whining about not eating their food yet, and also explaining to people that your kid is not sick, he just. drank. syrup.

So we packed up the food and went home so I could change Max's syrup vomit soaked clothes. Put him down for a nap and the rest of the day went a lot better. We cleaned the house and Kate did lots of chores to earn back the activity we had planned that night. Dyeing Easter eggs with cousins!

Jaron and Beth's family came over. We ate pizza, dyed eggs, and decorated cupcakes. Dustin gave a lesson about what Easter really means and Kate told a story about the Easter Bunny.

It ended up being a pretty good day after all.

Just another crazy antic my kids came up with today.

Inseperable

Max and Kate are inseparable lately. They play with each other all day, and at night they insist on sleeping in the same room. Kate hates to "be alone" at night, and Max will just cry for "Tay" (Kate). So right now they are sharing a room. While it's not always easy putting both of them at the same time, I'm surprised at how well this is working. We moved Max's toddler bed into Kate's room, and today I converted Max's room into a play room. I don't expect it to last long, but it will be nice while it does!

Girls' Day!

Today I decided to take Kate out for a mommy-daughter date. This is something I don't do very often, and something I'm set on changing! We had so much fun together today, that I'm declaring this a monthly event. I let Kate dictate the day and we had so much fun, and she definitely got a little spoiled.

Us all ready to go, and the picture of us Kate drew on the way.

I asked Kate what she would like to do first and she said "eat lunch at a restaurant". So we went to the fanciest restaurant around!

The next place she wanted to go? The "craft store". She walked out of there with some brand new watercolor paints.

Then we went to "shop for new clothes". She was so excited to "buy" it herself!

Then we went into the makeup store. We didn't buy anything here, but we sure had fun playing with all the samples!

Then Kate decided that ice cream was in order, and I wasn't going to argue with that!

When we pulled up to Yogurt Jungle, Kate started screaming that there was a bug in her dress. I could hear the terror in her voice so I parked the car as fast as I could and hopped out to help her. She was screaming, "it's a scorpion!". Thankfully, it was not a scorpion, it was only a grasshopper but it was huge. It had gotten stuck in the layers of her dress. I tried to just shake it out, but I couldn't so I had to strip her down in the parking lot. Sorry Kate! I finally got it out, put the dress back on, and we went on with our day.
